The Shrine of Remembrance Melbourne

The Shrine of Remembrance is Victoria’s largest and most visited war memorial and is Melbourne’s most recognised landmark. It is located located in Kings Domain on St Kilda Road, Melbourne. 10am - 5pm daily, closed Good Friday and Christmas Day, admission is FREE, however, the Shrine welcomes donations. For any Australian who has had family members in any of the services this is an emotional place to visit. We took out three grand children here for a visit, all three were captivated with much of what was on display. Young master grandson 14 years has always had an interest in the family Military history and he enjoy his time here the most and was in no hurry to leave. Many photos were taken, and with the beautiful views from the roof over looking the city of Melbourne. We took the time to watch the 10 minute audio/visual presentation on the history of WW1 and The Shrine and were so pleased that we did. I highly recommend a visit to the Shrine for all Australians and Tourists alike, you will not leave disappointed. 

Rural Ruins Of Old Homestead

We called in here on our way home from South Australia, to this place called Hannah's Ruins on Hannah Well Rd Coomandook. Here we found the ruins of an old homestead, so had to take a photo or two!!

Tailem Bend is a town built along the Murray River in South Australia. There is a ferry that runs from Tailen Bend to Jervois.

Swing Bridge Sale

The National Trust classified Swing Bridge Sale. The old Swing Bridge is located on the South Gippsland Highway 5 km from Sale. It was built over the La Trobe River at Longford in the 1800's and is said to be the oldest surviving Swing Bridge in Australia.

Kilcunda Trestle Bridge

The former Railway Trestle Bridge over Bourne Creek, Kilcunda built around 1910 and disused since the 1970's now formes part of the Bass Coast rail trail and also a tourist attraction. This bridge is now protected by the National Trust. It makes for great photo opportuniities at sunrise and sunset!!

Melbourne General Cemetery

 Melbourne General Cemetery is one of the most important cemeteries in Australia. The first burial was in 1853 and there have been more than 3000,000 burials. It is almost a walk back through Melbourne's history with some notable interments, so much so that they do run tours of this cemetery.

Harcourt Rail Bridge Victoria

The Railway Bridge, over Barker's Creek, near Harcourt in Victoria, this bridge was constructed of Harcourt granite in 1859-1861. It is a picturesque three arched bridge on the Bendigo to Castlemain  rail line is still in excellent condition and is on the Victorian Heritage Register.  

We called into Kallista on the way home and blended in with the bus loads of tourists, who were feeding the wild birds there. So I took the opportunity to take some close up photos of Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Crimson Rosella, Long Billed Corella.

I just love the sunsets at this time of the year, it is cold and wet but the sunsets on cloudy nights are beautiful.

Flinders Street Station Melbourne

The Heritage listed Flinders Street Station is a railway station situated on the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets in Melbourne, Australia. One of Melbourne's most recognisable landmarks and one of the city's much loved cultural icons. 'Under the Clocks' is a favourite Melbourne meeting place, hence the phrase "meet me under the clocks"

No Trains Buangor Victoria

The Buangor railway station now sadly sits in a state of dis-repair, with it's broken windows, the peeling paint, missing wall boards, the guttering that is falling off.... The rail line first came through around 1875 but I'm not sure if the station building is of that circa..

Rainbow Lorikeets

These two love birds were checking out some new homes with a view to be coming trendy new age inner city dwellers.. We were parked directly under the tree they were inspecting and didn't they let me know I was invading their privacy.. It was quite a surprise to see this type of bird looking for somewhere to nest almost in the heart of the city of Melbourne... 

Melbourne's first Night Noodle Market

Melbourne's first Night Noodle Market being held in the Alexandra Gardens November 18-30 it's open weekdays from 5pm and weekends from 4pm admission is free.

We decided to go in Saturday night 23.11.2013 and have a look, we left home at 5pm and although busy around inner Melbourne we found a car park easily and caught a tram to  Alexandra Gardens. 

Well if the crowds were anything to go by the first night market will be a great success with food from countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, China, India, Philippines. However we found that the queues for the more better know eateries were very long stretching from one side of the area to the other, so the wait would have been an hour or longer to be served. We opted for Aangan Indian stall because the queue was a lot smaller, but I have to say the the food was excellent and we felt it was good value for money. Overall we enjoyed the experience..
