My Freecycle Bird Bath

With the hot summer two years ago we put a message on freecycle for an unwanted birdbath so that we could help our bird life make it through the very hot days. Within a day or so we picked up a very old unused bird bath in need of some TLC. Now it has taken me some time but at the weekend the restoration of the bird bath took place. The inside of the dish was well worn and very dirty so I decided to soak it first with hot water and bleach, which I did for several hours.

Then with a scrubbing brush and a wire brush all old chipped and cracked paint was removed from both dish and pedestal, it was ready for it's makeover. Because the dish was in such poor condition I decided to re-seal it, which I hoped would make it look better and also make it easier to clean and keep clean. To seal the bowl I used Bondall- Pond Tite "Sandstone" as it is fish and bird friendly, for the pedestal I chose Wattyl Solargard Stone Finish "Organic Touch".

This project was completed over the weekend and I am very happy with the end result, all the hard work and effort were worth it to see the bird bath in my front garden...

Letting Children Garden

I have three grand children and I love to encourage them into the garden, to play, plant, explore and learn. I try to inspire them with easy to grow plants as they are curious, like to learn and love to play in the dirt.. A camera is also a good way for them to explore the garden and record the progress of gardening projects. Recently master Celeb 12 came for a sleep over, it was a lovely day so we decided to spend some time in the garden. I have two old metal wheelbarrows that were in need of replanting so I gave this job to Caeleb. He took out the old soil and replaced it with some new soil and once he was happy it was nicely smoothed out the planting began. I had bought some pansy's ready for Celeb to go to work, if the dirt on his clothes at the end of our gardening were anything to go buy Caeleb enjoyed his time in the garden...

Hardenbergia

Native to Australia, this fast growing, evergreen climber features long, delicate sprays of pea-shaped flowers. Flowers are borne in profusion from mid winter through to mid spring above attractive lime green foliage and stems.This plant is easy to grow and will thrive in most conditions if the soil is well draining. Plants perform best in open full sun positions but can tolerate semi shade.

Cloudehill Gardens & Seasons Restaurant - Olinda

Gardens in the Dandenong's

This time of the year is a good time to check some of the garden in the Dandenong's, one we visited recently was Cloudehill. Cloudehill gardens can be found at 89 Olinda-Monbulk Road, Olinda (WWW.cloudehill.com.au) As well as the beautiful gardens there is also the Seasons Restaurant and Nursery, so plenty to see and do over several hours.
Although the day we went was not perfect we did have a good day and did manage to get some nice photos of the gardens and nursery. Come and take a walk through the gardens with me...

After walking around the gardens and exploring them from one end to the other, it was time to wonder around the nursery and see what that had to offer... And there were many lovely things to see.
