Coolart Wetlands and Homestead this former farming property is a lovely place to get close to nature, bird life in particular with the wetland observatory, and bird hide tucked away on the edge of the wetland. Explore the gardens or the Historic Old Homestead. We will visit Coolart again but we will allow more time to explore!!

Homestead Ruins Central Victoria

These photo's below are of the former Carlo Gervaoni Homestead and outbuildings found in the Yandoit Hills. The homestead was know to the family as the Old Stone House. This complex is said to be architecturally, historically, scientifically significant at state level and socially at a local level in a Heritage Study undertaken in 2000 by the Shire of Mount Alexander as a fine example of Victorian Swiss-Italian Vernacular style architecture. Closely reflecting the Italian masseria (farmhouse) architecture of Northern Italy.  There are three main buildings on the site and other ruinous outbuildings. The Homestead is set on a large rural allotment on gently sloping agricultural land.  The Homestead is associated with the early establishment of Yandoit in the late 1850's. The Swiss-Italian farming practices introduced to the area included dairy farming, fruit and vegetable growing, butter and cheese making, vineyard establishment and vine making.
