Stony Creek Trestle Bridge

Stony Creek Trestle Bridge was built in 1916, it is 247 metres long and 20 metres high and is the largest standing bridge of it's kind in the state of Victoria. It was built from red iron-bark and grey box timber, which was sourced locally. Stony Creek Trestle Bridge remained in service until 1980 when it was damaged by bushfire. It remains the longest trestle bridge in the southern hemisphere, it is a great example of early Australian engineering skills. It is still a beautiful bridge today, I loved the colours of the timber in this bridge. I took photos from under the bridge showing a close up of the trestle timbers.

Because of it's length it was a challenge to try and get it all in a photo almost made it. We were at the bridge just on dawn and watched the sun rise over the bridge.
