One of things we found on our tour of Central Victoria were the many old grain mills through out the area. Many of these mills are now privately owned and have been turn into homes, which have been lovingly restored. The exterior of most of these mills is unchanged from when they were built, most of them from bluestone. The most accessible mill we found was Andersons Mill which celebrated 150 years in April 2012. The Anderson family owed and operated the mill for all of it's working life, built in 1861 it opened to business April 1862. The mill closed in 1959 and sat idle for almost twenty years, in 1974 it was one of the first buildings included on the Historic Buildings Register. The State Government purchased the mill in 1987 and restoration began in earnest to preserve the mill. The mill complex is now under the care of Parks Victoria and is well worth a visit. The five -storey bluestone building with it's massive iron water wheel and tall red brick chimney make for great photography opportunities.
